Oh dear. It’s started already. John Terry reckons England are in with a shout of the World Cup next year:
“If we play the way we have been, we can’t rule out England winning the World Cup.”
Yes yes, John, you’re right — England probably are in with a shout. But we say that every time, don’t we?
Is that your autobiography in your hand…?

So he’s finally off to Madrid. Hopefully it’ll all be done & dusted by the end of the month.
Please, God, let it be done & dusted at the end of the month.
UPDATE: Ah, the memories.

So, United are in another European Cup final.
Was it really almost a year ago that I opined “Roll on Moscow”?
Time is flying by!
I’m getting a little tired of reading about Manchester United’s opportunity to win five trophies this season. Sure, it’d be a great achievement but the media really are hyping this up.
Reading today’s match report where United put 4 past Fulham to reach the FA CUP semi-final it seems the BBC are getting a bit nostalgic ahead of time:
United have reached a record 26 FA Cup semi-finals and the question remains – who can halt their march towards history?
I think the media are going to be more disappointed than Fergie when (if) it doesn’t happen.

Luis Felipe Scolari has been sacked by Chelsea after just 8 months in charge.
“Luiz Felipe Scolari has been dismissed as manager of Chelsea Football Club with immediate effect. The Chelsea board would like to place on record our gratitude for his time as manager.”
The Guardian has more.

So, United finally got Berbatov for a cool £30.75m.
More incredibly, Man City beat Chelsea to Robinho’s signature who now becomes Britain’s most expensive footballer at £32.5m.
What a day!

Luiz Felipe Scolari has been named as the new Chelsea manager:
“He is one of the world’s top coaches with a record of success at country and club level,” read a Chelsea statement.
He succeeds Avram “not got a clue” Grant and, of course, Jose “the Special One” Mourinho.
A good appointment.

So Mr Sinatra (oh, I know) has finally put old Sven Goran Eriksson out of his misery.
‘By mutual consent’, Sven is now no longer manager of Manchester City.
Have to say I’ve no idea what Sinatra is thinking here — results were good, Eriksson was liked by the players and fans and it did look like he was building something for the future.
UPDATE: Mark Hughes is the new manager.

Wow, what a match! Chelsea and United were unable to win the match in 120 minutes so penalties it was. Never a fair way to win a match but it’s damned exciting!
UPDATE: Grant has lost his job – ostensibly as a result of not winning the Premiership or the Champions League. Still a successful season for them though.

Pitch in ‘awful’ state:
Chelsea and Manchester United have been warned the Luzhniki Stadium pitch is dangerous and not fit to host the final of the Champions League.
Groundsmen are working around the clock to improve the playing surface before tomorrow’s kick-off but the English head groundsman, Matthew Frost, said: “It is not like one of the better Premier League pitches, far from it. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out. The ball may not travel perfectly like it would on a pitch that has been in situ for some time. There might be a bit of a bobble.”
Fifty quid says the losing manager will cite this as the reason his team lost.
UPDATE: No such comments from Grant.
